Vegard Rekaa i Astronomen AS på Solobservatoriet

Meet the team behind the Astroguide course - Solobservatoriet and Astronomen

There are people who can explain to you where Saturn is in the sky right now, and then there are people who can make you feel like you're flying through its rings. As we are in the midst of a growing wave of astrotourism here in Norway, we don't just need astronomers, we need communicators.

The course organisers behind The astroguide courses know exactly how to make you feel the universe on the back of your neck.

A world-class collaboration

The Astroguide course is a collaboration between The solar observatory at Harestua and Astronomen.no, and it could hardly be better placed. The Solar Observatory is Northern Europe's largest facility for astronomy and space research, with a history stretching back to the 1950s. Here, some of Norway's brightest minds have worked with solar physics, satellite orbits and world-class research - and now the knowledge is used to create experiences for the general public.

Today, the Solar Observatory is a national experience centre for astronomy, surrounded by dark forests and deep silence - the perfect setting to convey the magic of the starry sky.

Together with Astronomen AS, led by astrophysicist and communicator Dr Vegard Rekaa, they now offer a course that equips you to take your own guests on unforgettable journeys into the night.

- "This isn't just about stars and planets. It's about giving people experiences that leave a mark," says Vegard.
- An evening under the stars can be the highlight of your entire holiday.

From research to communication

This is precisely what the course is about: Moving from knowledge to experience. From facts to communication. From theory to magic. As a participant, you'll learn both about astronomy and how to use it in a tourism context. How to talk about darkness. How to use the night sky as a stage. How to become a Astroguide.

The course instructors have extensive experience in both education and adventure tourism. They know how to build an evening under the stars into something more than just a peek through a telescope - it's about atmosphere, anticipation, wonder, and leaving room for the big question: What's really out there?

This is the start of something big

Astrotourism isn't just a trend - it's a new direction for Norwegian tourism. And those who take the lead now will have a head start. The course organisers behind Astroguide course gives you the tools you need - and the confidence to use them. You don't need to already know the names of all the constellations. All you need is curiosity - and a desire to give your guests something they'll never forget.
